Dr. Arthur Guyton writes in the Textbook of Medical Physiology that the first and foremost step towards maintaining health is to alkalize the body because the cells of a fit body are alkaline and the cells of a weak body are acidic. As it is known that human bodies are unable to manufacture alkalinity, thus you have to provide the alkalinity from an outside source to keep the body away from becoming acidic and dying.
Oxygen plays a vital role in cellular health, so you must maintain the good oxygen levels around the cells and in the blood. Acidic liquids do not have the ability to dissolve oxygen so well. For that reason, human body requires alkaline fluids to hold the oxygen.
Taking it technically, the H+ atoms in an acid unite with the oxygen to make H20 or water. So, the oxygen takes care of neutralizing the acid or using up the H+ found in acid. However, it also uses up the oxygen and does not remain available for cellular metabolism. On the other hand, alkaline fluids can hold dissolved oxygen, which becomes a reason for blood to be slightly alkaline to transfer oxygen to you cells. It is said that disease can not live in an alkaline body and oxygen rich alkaline body fluids are highly able to kill viruses."
There is a continuous interaction between the pH of the liquids inside the cell and the liquids outside the cell. Generally, the pH of a human body’s cell is 6.5 or perhaps higher. The molecules of sugar glucose break down into nucleotides, which are the fundamental elements of DNA. You know it very well that the DNA is the basic blue print of the body. But, if the fluids inside a cell become too acidic, having pH of 6.0 instead of the regular 6.5, the sugar glucose molecules break in half making two lactic acid molecules. These lactic acid molecules make the inside of the cell even more acidic. This is perhaps the basic reason why acidosis results in degenerative diseases, and why increasing the fluid pH of the body becomes a remedy to the disease."
Otto Warburg won the Nobel Prize in Medicine In 1931. He, once again, won the Nobel Prize in 1944. He was delivering a lecture at the meeting of the Nobel Laureates on June 30, 1966 at Lindau, Lake Constance, Germany, where he explained that cancer is anaerobic. In simple English, it occurs in a body where there is little or no oxygen at all.
A study was conducted by the University of California, San Francisco in which 9000 women took part. The study resulted in a conclusion that those who have chronic acidosis have a greater risk of bone loss.
There are yeasts, fungi, and molds present in the body fluids and the intestine. Some of these elements are very vital for the process of digestion, and if they are not in our body, we would die without them. The others, which are not advantageous, can take hold in some areas of the body. They can do bring harm to our tissues, arteries, cell walls etc., which can become a reason to some disease or may make us vulnerable to a disease. These yeasts, fungi, and molds require an acidic environment to thrive in. Also, their waste products are very acidic to human body, which can cause to produce a chain reaction of growth of these substances. We should always try to keep our body fluids alkaline, so that we can keep these undesirable yeasts, fungi, and molds away from being nourishing into our bodies.
Moreover, it is also discovered that there seems to be no disease causing organisms, including bacteria, virus, fungus, yeast, anoeboids or cancerous cells, which can regenerate in a well oxygenated (alkaline) environment.
In summary, if we succeed in keeping our bodies slightly alkaline, our body fluids and organs can become more capable of holding oxygen. As a result, we can be less susceptible to many dangerous diseases.
